Devlog 03 - Full Prototype


Introduction

Welcome to our third devlog!

We’ve been creating a local couch co-op game where the goal is to cook together. The catch however is that you’re an octopus and every player controls one tentacle. For various cooking tasks you’ll have to work together while the orders keep coming in. We also want to add features where you can lose lives/arms by accidentally cutting your limbs off and annoy each other by stealing items from each other.

This week, our team has dedicated all efforts to putting a full gameplay prototype together. We finished a lot of needed paperwork, organization and dividing of tasks. 

Prototype

There are highlights around the interactables now. You can now pick up pots and fluid stays in the pots while you are holding it.

Additionally we’ve added a point system based on how well cooked the dish is. We’ve integrated a recipe generator, that also gives points based on if you have put in the right ingredients.

We ported the cutting prototype to our full gameplay prototype, readjusting the input system and the controller scripts so they’re compatible with how we designed the full prototype. And now we have a full gameplay prototype.


Art

We’ve made more and almost all needed 3D objects for the full game prototype and kitchen blockout including space for all the ingredients and cooking equipment. We made a proper tentacle that displays the cell shading with lineart and is also fully rigged.


The art bible is fully finished now and we’ve added a character page.


The future

Next week marks the start of production. We will restart in a new Unity file, redo and clean up all the code. And our artists will make new and improved assets to make the game look amazing.
